I was absolutely mad about this tune and I had no idea what tune it was… until I realised after four days that I have the tune on plate because Marcus gave it to me! This tune is definitely a big part of my life.Limited Flag: LimSpecial / LimProject / LimShows / LimSBDs / LimRangeġ1/2005 brought a major change to GD material here. In the middle it had this Amen break, an edit beat and the vocals saying ‘DROP!’ then ‘BAAANG!’ The whole crowd went crazy and there were three or four rewinds after this.

He went to the decks and played this track with a looooong intro and the beats were so funky. On Sunday, I went to Metalheadz at Dingwalls and Goldie was there with Noel Gallagher. I went back to my manager’s house happy cos I met Marcus and he was really nice with me! He had this CD and he let me cut all the tracks from it – Universe, Lose Control, My Soul, 305, 20/20 and Whiplash by these new guys called Future Cut.

Everyone knows that this tune changed my life and my vision about d’n’b! But on that Friday when I met him, we had a lil talk cos my English was so limited at the time. I met Marcus at Music House after a Thursday night that I heard Jumpin’ Jack Frost playing How You Make Me Feel for the first time. But when this comes on? I go through every single instrument in that track. I never do this when I’m mixing, I keep my head down. Every time I play the track I go through the same motions I’m playing the whole tune, I’m playing the guitar, I’m playing the organs, I’m singing on the mic. They added that whole other musical layer – they added guitars and made it more uplifting. It blew me away! Then he told me he got Calibre and ST Files on it as well. Marcus was there and we went to the car and he played this. It wasn’t like he didn’t recognise a good tune but it wasn’t quite the vibe he had on Soul:r.įortunately we got the track and he was one of the people to remix it. Marky first offered it to Marcus and he didn’t sign it. It makes me feel like I’m inside the tune, not just hearing it. The original was such a big track, but I love this remix. There are two tunes in my sets that have been played more than any other. But first, here’s a rewind over 21 of many, many tracks that have brought us here… With the emergence of a new generation of artists leading from the front, it seems like it’s only warming up. And as we skank into a new decade this shows no signs of change. Now so widespread and broad in its influences, reference points and fanbase, it’s a genre that’s rooted in its own culture enough to include huge crossover titans such as Chase & Status and High Contrast and technical or artistic heavyweights like Noisia and Calibre – all of whom appear more than once in this list.ĭrum’n’bass exists on both ends of the underground/commercial spectrum and does so without compromise. The liquid funk golden era, the development of mainstream drum’n’bass, the experimental autonomic movement, neurofunk, jump-up, the jungle renaissance – the list goes on. They all delivered… and these stone cold classics, slept-on gems and absolute anthems are what they picked.ĭrum’n’bass has continually evolved since the dawn of the century, consistently morphing, mutating and spawning new hybrids and subgenres and ushering in new generations of artists and fans at every stage. Like all things in this culture, selection is everything – so we’ve looked across the styles, generations and territories for an incisive rollcall of selectors that ranges from Bryan Gee to Mantra, Fabio to Phace. It’s an almost impossible question to answer, but that didn’t stop us asking 21 of our favourite artists across the genre. What’s been your favourite drum’n’bass tune this century?
